For this month’s artist of the issue, Mrs. Hoffman immediately suggested Tyler Himlin. Himlin is a senior in Mrs. Hoffmans third period class.

Himlin has been seriously practicing his art for the last eight years since he was in fifth grade when he first started taking art classes.

Himlin is not the only artist in his family, in fact both of his parents whom he says are his biggest inspirations and his sister, Emma Himlin is extremely creative.

Himlin describes his art style as “very unique and maybe even a little weird.”

He loves working with clay and making 3D art. Himlin says that he practices his artwork in a non-professional way as a stress reliever, and just for recreation, he does not see himself making a career out of his love for art.

Himlin says that his style has changed dramatically overtime. He started out mostly drawing and painting and he has now moved onto molding and sculpting clay.

Sydney Ferris is a sophomore at GBHS in Mrs. Days fifth period Art 2 class. Ferris has been drawing and creating new and creative pieces for as long as she can remember. “Ever since I was little, I would take a sketch-book with me everywhere I went.” Ferris’s current main style is cartoon animation. She says her biggest inspirations are Disney and Pixar animated films.

Recently she has been extremely interested in learning about the digital aspect of animation. She excitedly explained to me how she now knows how to digitally animate clothing for the most realistic effect.

Most of her best work is done over breaks and weekends as she is remarkably busy during the school week. Her sketches and drawing can take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, to even days.

Ferris usually uses pencils for her artwork, although sometimes she uses paints and colored pencils as well. Ferris has taken countless art classes both in and out of school since she was just a little kid. Ferris describes her stye as “anything from cartoon animation to technical realism.”

In the future, Ferris has dreams of becoming an animator of some kind and based on the work I have seen, she will have no trouble at all achieving her dream.
