Gulf Breeze Fine Arts Festival

Ryan Hoffman, Staff Writer

As most people, art is not the easiest thing to just pick up. After many years of practice, many still aren’t able to master it. The students of gulf breeze and elsewhere showed off their accomplishments and hard work. Everything from paintings to pottery, the art students have been working all year for this time to show off their art.

The art festival included people from all throughout the country traveling over to Gulf Breeze to show off their works during the art show, and some of these people have been working a lot of their lives to show off their artwork. These people showed off their work to people at the festival in booths in the senior parking lot, and many of their amazing works were sold during the festival as well.

It was not just Gulf Breeze High School students and other independent artists there, some of the Gulf Breeze Middle and Elementary school students submitted and had their pieces displayed, showing that our schools have talented and thriving artists and art programs.

While the festival was going on, students had a competition with Navarre High School. The pieces were judged within two categories, paintings, and sculptures. Each piece had a tag around it that stated their school’s name, student name and the categories they were participating in. Artists from our school and Navarre submitted their top pieces to be judged by judges.

Some of the sculpture winners at Gulf Breeze are Isabella Curd who was awarded first place in sculptures, and Destin Henderson who was awarded with an honorable mention. Artwork wasn’t the only thing offered during the festival, activities were also offered to children visiting the festival. The Santa Rosa Woman’s helped children make brunch hats, or alternatively pirate hats depending on which the child preferred. And in art teacher Ms. Days room, children were making superhero masks. Another activity offered were face paintings and bracelet making.

And in addition, the school also put on a bake and pottery sale, with the aim of raising money for the are program to purchase a new wheel for the art program, as the current one has been experienced malfunctions. Proceeds also went towards National Art Honor Society Scholarships.

The art festival was a fun time for everyone who attended. It was a great time to show off the accomplishments for all the art students at our school out for the community.
