Florida Mid-term Elections

Several important elections are set to take place this year in Florida. The most important of which is the gubernatorial election. The election is set to take place on October 8 of this year.

Its still too far out to have a finalized ballot yet but the incumbent governor Ron DeSantis will be on the Republicans ticket. DeSantis will again be running with Jeanette Nuñez as his lieutenant governor. The pair have been in charge of Florida since Nov. 6, 2018.

DeSantis has arguably become the most recognizable Republican in power ever. His popularity among Republicans has allowed him to entertain the idea of being the Republican nominee in the 2024 election but no statements have been made yet.

DeSantis has been credited with turning Florida away from a “swing state” into more of a Republican stronghold.

The Democratic Party has no one candidate yet but one is more recognizable than the rest. The leading democratic candidate is Charlie Crist. Crist has been a representative for the state since 2017 representing the St. Petersburg area.

Crist is a former governor of Florida himself. He was voted into office in 2007 and decided that he would not run for re-election in 2011. Crist was a Republican during his first stint as governor but he crossed party lines shortly after leaving office.

The 2022 Florida gubernatorial election is too far away to really tell how close the results will be but every important election in Florida finds away to be a close race.

A senators seat is also up for grabs. The election will occur on the same day as the guber-natorial election so voters will be able to cast both votes at once. Incumbent Marco Rubio is wanting a third term and is already campaigning to keep it.

Much like the gubernatorial election, the Democratic Party does not have one candidate set in stone yet and there is no clear front runner. Democrats are hoping to have a finalized candidate by Election Day.
