The girls started the day on the multi lap curvy course around the Dolphin Stadium and athletic fields. Seniors, Elisa Williamson. Savannah Jacobi, Ann Hitpas, and Ashley Granse along with Freshman Ella Goodwin led the team and raced through the first mile. Elisa and Ella pulled away from the field through mile 2. Unfortunately Ella took a wrong turn going into the final mile of the race but Elisa continued strong to finish the 5k course as the winner. Elisa was followed by 5 Gulf Breeze teamsters before the 1st finisher from another team. 2-6 were seniors Savannah Jacobi, Ann Hitpas, Ashley Granse, Kacie May, and Peyton Bunting. The girls scored a perfect score of 15 to win the meet, followed by Navarre with 51 and Milton with 77. There were a total of 44 girls who completed the race with 23 of them from Gulf Breeze.

On the boys side freshman Jacob Dorsch and senior James Beeson led the entire race. Jacob wining and James closely behind him. Seniors Nick Irby, Oscar Garcia, and sophomore Adam Worrell rounded out the Gulf Breeze top five finishing 4th, 5th, and 6th overall and leading the boys team to victory as well with 18 points. Navarre was 2nd with 48 points and Milton 3rd with 74 points. Seniors Andrew Henderson and William Kemp also had a sting showing finishing over all in the top 10  in 8th and 9th place. On the boys’ side there were a total of 38 finishers with 17 of them being Gulf Breeze runners.

“This was a difficult course to go along with the very hot weather but Coach Adams and I     were happy with how the teams competed and are excited for the season,” said coach Gordon. The Dolphins took a big step to start out their season and are looking towards more big wins to continue to stand out. Gulf Breeze JV and Varsity will compete in Pace Patriot Invitational at Sims Middle at 7:00 AM on Saturday, September the 4th.
