Former top prospect and professional player Travis “Moose” Mattair was named Varsity Head coach of Gulf Breeze High School Baseball.

Mattair spent his youth usually on a playing field, he was a three-sport all-star in high school. He was drafted in the second round by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2007. Mattair was then traded to the Cincinnati Reds where he spent his time in the Minors playing with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos, where he developed his love for our city.

After his time in the pros he opened his own training academy in Pensacola where he coached several teams and got experience coaching young kids and helping them reach their goals.  He’s continued to work with athletes in their journey through the game of baseball.

Recently Gulf Breeze lost their head coach Kevin Ricks which left a lot of people in shock. Riccs helped our program in many ways but he had to go his own ways. Fortunately for our program, Travis Mattair stepped into our school and decided he wanted to change Gulf Breeze baseball for the better.

Our new coach is very excited to take our program to the next level, when spoken to he stated “I am very excited for this opportunity! Being the coach GBHS is a dream come true. I learned so much from my days playing ball, and I am looking forward to sharing it with the players here at Gulf Breeze. We have a very talented group of guys, top of the line facilities, and great support from the community. I have to pinch myself sometimes when I think about this opportunity that has been placed before me. I am excited to get started.”

The Gulf Breeze baseball team and coaching staff is very excited to have such an experienced view over the game of baseball and be led to a state championship at GBHS is a dream come true.
