According to clubamerica.com, Club America’s mission “serves to empower the patriotic leaders of tomorrow.” It focuses on the importance of staying educated about current events in politics, helping students register to vote, and the value of free thinking.
Club America is a branch of Turning Point USA, the association founded by the late Charlie Kirk.
In an interview given to NPR’s Shannon Bond in 2024, Kirk explains his inspiration behind his founding of Turning Point, “I want[ed] to try to start a youth organization to try and save Western civilization.”
This passion led to 2000+ TPUSA club formations and, since its launch in July of this year, 1200+ High School Club America chapters.
The GBHS chapter of Club America is a welcoming and fun group. They are focused on showing their pride in America and enjoying themselves while they’re at it.
Junior and Co-president of GBHS Club America Boeden Chavez says their group is “A club that is directed towards teaching conservative values like limited government, free market, and the ideals of liberty.”
The club is fairly new, having only just held their inaugural meeting on September 30th. It started when a handful of ambitious GBHS students, including Chavez, along with classmates Akayla Stack and Alyssa Wright, went to a Turning Point USA field rep meeting and decided they wanted to start their own chapter.
Since then, they’ve worked hard to get their club out there; they held an event at Coastal Chill and have been working on spreading the word about their club through their Instagram account and potential future announcements on The Morning Breeze.
On September 10th , Kirk was killed in a devastating assassination while holding a TPUSA event at Utah Valley University. Though the organization lost their much-loved and respected leader that day, his death caused many Americans to speak up and inspired them to get more politically involved.
“I was a little cowardly about my beliefs, ‘cause, like I would get judged, but after Charlie Kirk died, it was like, you kind of need to take a stance on what you believe,” says Alyssa Wright, GBHS Club America secretary.
GBHS Club America is currently working on growing their membership. They are a primarily a faith-based Christian and predominately conservative group, but they are more than happy to let people with different opinions and beliefs to join them. Afterall, you don’t have to agree with a person to enjoy their company.
Right now, Club America is meeting every Thursday from 3:30 – 4 in Mr. Olsen’s room (Room 219). They are also looking to host another event, potentially with the GBHS Students for Life club, though that is still undecided.
So, no matter what you believe in, stop by Mr. Olsen’s room one Thursday afternoon and see what this club is all about. You won’t regret it!
