With the varsity and JV teams completing their first matchups of the year, both squads have shown that this season will be filled with determination and growth.

The varsity Dolphins opened their season against Choctaw, facing a strong and disciplined opponent. Choctaw controlled the tempo from the beginning, and despite a steady effort from Gulf Breeze, the Dolphins struggled to generate momentum on offense.

The night ended with a 54-27 loss, giving the varsity squad a clear understanding of the areas they need to sharpen. Coaches highlighted that the team continued to compete until the final whistle, using the game as a chance to build chemistry and learn from the pressure.

A few days later the varsity team took the court again, this time facing Milton in a matchup filled with energy and intensity. The Dolphins showed noticeable improvement with stronger defensive rotations and more confident ball movement. Neither team managed to pull away as the score remained tight for all four quarters.

In the last moments Milton gained possession and managed to sink a buzzer beater, handing Gulf Breeze a painful one-point loss. Despite the heartbreak, the varsity squad walked off the court encouraged by how closely they battled and how much progress they had made since opening night.

While varsity endured two challenging contests, the JV Dolphins provided one of the season’s earliest highlights. Their matchup with Milton was a close fight from the beginning, and both teams exchanged baskets throughout the game.

As the final seconds drained away the Dolphins held the ball with one last chance to win. After a well-executed pass and a quick release, Molly Stovert watches as her shot dropped cleanly through the net just as the buzzer sounded. The JV girls exploded in celebration as they claimed a dramatic buzzer beater victory.

With the season still young, both squads are already showing resilience and promise. Varsity aims to build on the grit and improvement displayed in their tight battle with Milton, while JV carries the momentum of a thrilling win into the weeks ahead.

If these opening games are any indication, the 25-26 Gulf Breeze Dolphins are prepared to compete with pride, intensity, and heart every time they take the floor.
