“Tall Girl 2” is the exciting sequel to the Netflix original movie “Tall Girl”, which originally came out Sep 13, 2019. The original movie is a teen romantic comedy involving a 6’2” sixteen-year-old who attends Ruby Bridges High School in New Orleans.

The overall plot of the original story was quite simple, Jodi has always been mocked and teased for being extraordinarily tall. Naturally, all of this caused Jodi to be very insecure about her physical appearance and throughout the movie she is constantly searching for confidence and security. Jodi meets a Swedish foreign exchange student named Stig, who sweeps her off her feet.

Stig ends up breaking Jodi’s heart and she gets with her best friend, Dunken, Who Stig is staying with. Near the end of the movie, Jodi Gives an extremely inspiring speech at her high school home coming about loving yourself for who you are and not caring what other people may or may not think of you.

“Tall Girl 2” takes place during the production of the spring play, Bye, Bye Birdy in which Jodi gets cast as the lead over her arch enemy, Kimmy Stitcher. While Kimmy does everything, she can discourage Jodi from performing in the play. Kimmy is planning to sabotage Jodi when her best friend, Schnipper, tries to talk about some sense and normal human decency.

Jodi is losing her newfound confidence very quickly as the upcoming play approaches alarmingly fast. To add to the confusion Jodi’s love life is also in shambles. Jodi is struggling with feelings of guilt and resentment towards her new ex-boyfriend Dunken, after kidding her co-star just a few days after they had broken up.

While Jodi tries to silence the voice inside her head telling her she is a failure and is not good enough to be in the show, Kimmy seems to have had a change of heart and is genuinely trying to become a better person. Opening night arrives and Jodi is so nervous she can barely think straight. She stumbles back to her dressing room, thinking that she won’t be able to go out and perform when Kimmy walks in.

Jodi offers the part to Kimmy (her understudy) but surprisingly Kimmy refuses, though the idea is clearly very appealing to her. Kimmy gives Jodi a pep talks and sends her out to perform. Jodi, of course, does amazingly and everyone is very impressed. The moral of the second movie is to not let the little voice inside our head control you, but rather, to appreciate yourself and accept yourself.

I felt that this sequel, like many others, was quite unnecessary. The original movie ended with a well-rounded plot and no loose ends. The sequel was a very interesting movie, and I enjoyed the love storyline that tied in nicely with the overall theme, However, the message of “Tall Girl 2” was way too similar to the message in the original.

With all that being said, I really liked the movie and would recommend it to any Tall Girl fans out there.
