The 94th Academy Awards may have been one of the most memorable events of 2022. In case you missed it, here is some highlights of the night.

   ‘CODA’ won best picture award.

Ariana Debose became the first queer black woman to win an acting award, taking home Best Supporting actress for ‘West Side Story.’

‘Dune’ won the most awards, with six.

Jessica Chastain won best actress award for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”

Troy Kotsur makes history as being the first deaf man to win an acting Oscar.

The Academy also had a moment of silence for Ukraine. Ukranian born actress Mila Kunis said, “Many recent events have us gutted, yet when you witness the strength and dignity of such devastation, its impossible to not be moved by their resilience.” Kunis continued, one cannot help but be in awe of those who find strength to fighting such unimaginable darkness.”

‘CODA’ made history, becoming the first film distributed by a streaming service to win an Oscar. “Thank you to the Academy for letting our “CODA” make history tonight,” said Phillipe Rousslet, one of the films producers in the speech.

Jessica Chastain won the Oscar for Best Actress for her role as ‘Tammy Faye Baker’ in the biographical drama “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.”

Anthony Hopkins received a standing Ovation as he was presenting for being absent last year but winning the Best Actor award.

Will Smith, who started acting in 1990, won his first award. Smith also made headlines for slapping Chris Rock after the comedian made an insensitive joke about Smith’s wife, Jada’s, alopecia. Jada’s medical condition contributed to her recent hair loss. Will Smith has been banned from the event for the next ten ceremonies. This doesn’t just include the Oscar’s event, but it also includes many others. Will Smith is banned from all Academy events and ceremonies.

Billie Eilish and Finneas won their first Oscar with the song ‘No Time to Die’ from the James Bond film with the same title.

‘We don’t talk about Bruno’ from the film “Encanto” was performed to introduce the Oscars but unfortunately, wasn’t up for an Oscar itself. Although the movie itself won ‘Best Animated Feature.’

This basically sums up the most defining moments of the Oscars. Many are looking forward to next years awards already.
