The popular English indie rock band, Arctic Monkeys, has revealed a new album which will be released on Oct. 21, 2022. The album, called The Car, has gotten many fans excited as it’s been years since the quartet’s last album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino, which debuted May 11, 2018. The Car, written by band member Alex Turner, marks the seventh album by the Arctic Monkeys since their start in 2002. The album was produced by James Ford and will be released through Domino, the band’s record label.  

Arctic Monkeys is composed of Alex Turner, Matt Helders, Jamie Cook and Nick O’Malley. Andy Nicholson was a member in the early years of the band but left in 2006. The band members are all very close in age, Turner and Helders being 36 as well as Cook and O’Malley being 37. The band allegedly formed in high school, as the musicians were all close friends and shared a passion for music. Today, Arctic Monkeys has been widely successful and extremely well known, winning 38 awards from 92 nominations.  

In a “Music Feeds” interview from 2019, band member Matt Helders claimed “We like being in the studio. We’re keen on making albums.” Alongside the new Arctic Monkeys album, several other renown artists such as Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor and Carly Rae Jepson are planned to release albums on Oct. 21, 2022. Taylor Swift will be releasing Midnights, Meghan Trainor will be releasing Takin’ It Back and Carly Rae Jepson will be releasing The Loneliest Time. Other artists releasing albums in the month of October include Charlie Puth, Dayglow and The 1975. 

Arctic Monkeys’ The Car will reportedly feature songs that resemble the music from their last album, Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino. The Car contains 10 songs, 1 of which was released Aug. 30, 2022. “There’d Better Be a Mirrorball” kicks off the unreleased album with a poetic, jazzy feeling. Being the first song on the album, it teases the theme of what’s to come on Oct. 21. The modern music made by Arctic Monkeys strikes a heavy contrast when compared to their rock hits from years ago. Helders has said “It’s never gonna be like R U Mine?” which is a fast-paced hit song from their album AM in 2012. The band has seemingly moved into slower, rhythmic songs that are just as catchy. On Oct. 21, 2022, The Car will be available for purchase on vinyl, CD, cassette and online.
