Wednesday, the newest Netflix top show, was released on the streaming service on Nov. 23, 2022. The show takes a deeper look at Wednesday, the daughter of Morticia and Gomez Addams.

The story begins with Wednesday attending a typical public high school, full of kids who don’t like her and think she is an “outcast.” After causing some issues with other students, Wednesday is expelled from the school and her parents have made a new schooling decision for her future. Little does she know; she will soon be attending the school her parents went to when they were young. It is also the place where they fell in love. Nevermore Academy is a school for “outcasts” and is full of more kids like Wednesday. Werewolves, sirens, vampires and more have come to call the academy their home.

Wednesday hates the idea of having to live and attend this school with all these other kids. After realizing that the school may be in trouble, she decides to stay and solve the mystery behind Nevermore Academy. One night at town carnival, one student leads Addams into the woods and shows her an old picture that looks like Wednesday may be involved in. While the student is questioning her about the picture, a vicious monster appears and tries to attack Wednesday and Rowan, her fellow classmate. This is when Addams realizes something is not right about Nevermore and that something is happening behind the scenes.

The rest of the season consists of Wednesday trying to solve the mystery of who the monster – or hyde as it comes to be known – really is. Once the monster is revealed, the students make their way home for a break. Before heading home, one of the characters, Xavier, gifts Wednesday her first cell phone. All seems good until Addams receives a text that states that someone is still watching her and is planning to kill her. The ending leads viewers to think that there will be a season two on the way soon.

Junior, Sydney Ferris, stated, “I thought it was a good mix between a serious mystery show and a comedy, which made it dark, but still fun.” Wednesday has not only remained in the top ten shows on Netflix, but it has also been put on the list of most watched television series on the streaming service as well. On Jan. 6, 2023, it was announced that there will be a season two of the show, but a release date has not been announced. Until then, viewers and fans can only wonder what the next season is going to bring.
