Disney’s “Jungle Cruise” released to theaters and Disney+ this summer.

The much-anticipated “Jungle Cruise” movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt finally came out July. The movie is based on Disneyland’s theme park ride of the same name, in which a small riverboat takes a group of travelers through a jungle filled with dangerous animals and reptiles, but with a supernatural element.

“Jungle Cruise” follows the captain of a small riverboat who takes a scientist and her brother through the jungle in search of the tree of life.

Plans for the film based on the ride originally began in 2004, the project laid dormant until 2011, then that version fell through and Johnson eventually joined in 2015, followed by Blunt and the rest of the cast in 2018 in a new imagined version.

The long-awaited film was finally released on its third set date. Initially planned for October 2019, “Jungle Cruise” was given a new release date of July 24, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was pushed back a third time and premiered on July 30, 2021.

Along with its theatrical release, “Jungle Cruise” was made available of Disney+ with Premier Access. With box office and Premier Access revenues, the film made $187.9 million against a $200 million budget. Ultimately, Walt Disney Pictures lost $12.1 million, which is not surprising considering that there was, and still is, a worldwide pandemic at the time of its release.

A sequel to “Jungle Cruise” has been announced, with Johnson and Blunt set to reprise their roles.
