Marvel Studios Releasing Too Much, Too Quickly
September 27, 2022
“Marvel is at a point where if someone doesn’t watch every single movie and series, they put out it’s possible that a person will not understand what’s going on.”
Marvel Studios is a film and graphic novel company that is beloved around the world. Marvel released 34 movies and series, also seemingly countless graphic novels. Having this much content, someone could wonder if they have stopped producing new material or will soon, yet they do not appear to be slowing down production.
Over the summer, Marvel Studios attended San Diego Comic-Con International (SDCC) where they announced many upcoming projects including movies, shows on Disney+ and new comics to be released up to 2025. This news has caused excitement among the fans but also some disappointment, as well. With all these new projects, people are wondering if it’s too much.
These projects can cause a dip in supporters. I know it might sound strange that by putting out more content, a company loses fans. Marvel is at a point where if someone doesn’t watch every single movie and series, they put out it’s possible that a person will not understand what’s going on. Most people don’t have time to do all of that, especially working adults.
Marvel’s desired audience can be a little bit difficult to decipher. Shows and movies like Ant-Man and What if? can be viewed by a younger audience. Then there are some like Deadpool and Moonknight are darker and are meant for a more mature audience. This can cause an inconsistency in the number of viewers per film.
Marvel’s fame and popularity grew from the Infinity Saga. It covers phases one, two, and three. Marvel’s phases are a way to organize the movies, they contain movies that are loosely connected. The Infinity Saga starts with 2008’s Iron Man and ends with 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home. Their growth came because it led to something big, Avengers: End Game. Now, people know that there is always going to be a release after the one prior which is causing fans to get annoyed with the fact that it seems like there will be no definite ending.
Viewers are also upset with Marvel’s recent animation and CGI. This criticism was especially noticed when the “She-Hulk” trailer came out. I feel that the CGI is quite good considering it’s for a show that will only be on one platform and it’s something the animators have never done before.
As a fan of the Marvel franchise who watched almost every piece of film they released and read some of the comics, I am happy that they are releasing new content and excited to see what they do with it, but it’s upsetting in a way to see it being dragged out like this. I feel that they need to make a clear ending, which might happen but clearly it will be in the far future.
No matter what, people – including myself – are still going to watch and read content from Marvel Studios. But if they don’t have the climatic draw like in their Infinity Saga, which I don’t personally believe they do, the number is most likely going to decline.
