Are Fall Drinks Overrated?

As of September 22, the fall season has begun. This is many people’s favorite time of year as it entails Halloween, Thanksgiving and of course, a break from school! Many drink companies have already begun introducing autumn-themed items which include the famous flavors of fall: pumpkin spice, nutmeg, cinnamon and more. These drinks have taken off on social media and become exceedingly popular; however, there are many that claim these drinks are simply overrated. While I understand that these drinks aren’t for everybody, I don’t agree that they’re overrated. These drinks are offered for a limited time and celebrate the fall spirit.

Starbucks, Chick-fil-a, and Dunkin’ Donuts are a few major food and drink companies that have released fall themed drinks. Starbucks has the famous Pumpkin Spice Latte (PSL) as well as the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, the Apple Crisp Oatmilk Macchiato and the Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino. Chick-fil-a is offering a new Autumn Spice milkshake for the season which presents flavors such as cinnamon and brown sugar spice. Dunkin’ Donuts has an impressive list of fall features which includes the Pumpkin Spice Signature Latte, Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, Blood Orange Dunkin’ Refresher, and Nutty Pumpkin Coffee. Alongside trending fall drinks from these companies, there are classic drinks such as apple cider that continue to be a personal favorite for many.

Most people on social media are quick to promote their fall drinks. To provide more insight on the general opinion at Gulf Breeze High School, I asked a few students for their opinions. Aaron Sampson, a senior, said “Honestly I don’t really care about what people drink as long as they’re happy.” Addi Stikeleather, a senior, said that “I think some may be overrated but I get the pumpkin obsession.” Leah Kolb, a sophomore, said “I don’t think they’re overrated because they’re seasonal and they only get their hype once a year. And they’re good obviously.” Will Neff, a junior, says “They are pretty decent. The Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks is a tad overrated, but other drinks like apple cider, hot chocolate, and peppermint mochas make up for it.”

Are fall drinks necessary? No, of course not. Are they fun? Yes! Fall themed drinks are an enjoyable part of the autumn season that aren’t overrated, just appreciated.
