Many students are disappointed by the bathroom quality at this school. Sometimes you may walk into the bathroom to find no toilet paper, soap, or paper towels in sight. 12th grader, Melody Liebenguth voices her opinion on the restrooms stating, “The cleanliness is under par due to time and partial understaffing.” Melody believes the reason our restrooms are of bad quality is because of the lack of janitorial staff. Though students and I are grateful for our custodians and janitorial staff, a stronger emphasis should be placed on the inspection and restocking of vital supplies such as toilet paper, soap and paper towels.

Our poorly maintained school restrooms have a negative impact beyond the bathroom doors. You may walk by the restrooms and smell a strong odor of urine coming from them. Katie Jackson is not keen on the odor stating, “Every time I walk into the bathroom at school, the smell is always atrocious and makes me feel dirty when I leave.”

In addition to the poor quality, many students are upset about the locked restrooms located near the English hallway during lunches. Sophie Forgett states, “It’s an inconvenience for students like myself who need to use the restroom. It’s frustrating when I pull on the handle of the door, just to find out it’s locked.” Many students and myself are questioning why the English hallway bathrooms are locked to begin with.

Kashmir Patel is not impressed by bathroom quality stating, “There was a carton of spoiled milk in the bathroom for months. The bathrooms were so bad already, no one noticed.” The lack of attention to the school bathrooms is disappointing. Students deserve a clean and sanitary environment throughout the entire school day.

Emily Muench states, “Whenever I use the bathroom at this school, I feel like I’m at a random exit on a road trip. I try to avoid using the school bathrooms because they are very neglected and poorly maintained. If there’s any room for renovation, I think bathrooms should be a priority.” Understandably, our school was built in the 1970s, so the restrooms are outdated. However, the cleanliness should not be outdated.

I agree with the concerns of these students, we must address the poor-quality bathrooms. Having clean restrooms should be a priority for all students.
