Dolphin Softball opened its season with a pair of blistering wins against Washington 15-0 and Catholic 10-0.

Head Coach Chelsea Mcgehee comments “Were off to a good start and really getting into the meat of our schedule. Both JV and Varsity squads are working extremely hard to get better every day. We’ve got a lot of motivation to go deep into the post-season and it has been fun to be around these two amazing groups of ladies. They are a talented group of kids, and I am extremely proud of both squads.”

Some Standouts are Olivia Ammon with a batting Average of 0.471. Presley Hall with an On-Base Percentage of 0.545. Again, Oliva Ammon holds the team-high of 3 home runs currently. Ericka Earl has 5 stolen bases this year, leading the team. Leila Ammon has an Earned Run Average of 1.67. And Sophie Mislevy has a Fielding Percentage of 0.978. Seniors that will graduate this year from the Varsity squad are Isabela Rocha, Olivia Am-mon, and Lily Branton.

“My favorite part of the team is how well we have been able to mend together on and off the pitch, especially after losing eight seniors last year. We started off this season with a bang, and I hope that we can carry through the rest of it with that same energy and motivation,” said Olivia Ammon.

Since our lady Dolphins have had an overall record of 9-6 and 6-0 in their league, they are in first. At home they have 5 wins and 4 losses. The girls have a total of 24 games and will move onto their next one against Escambia away. The lady Dolphins already pulverized them 11-1 at home. Escambia’s overall record is 5-12 and they are 1-1 in their league and in fourth place.

Since the season began our Dolphins have had an overall record of 6-4 and 4-0 in their league. At home they have 2 wins and 3 losses. The girls have a total of 24 games, and they will move onto their next one against Pine Forest at home. Gulf Breeze beat Pine Forest earlier in the year 18-2 away and are looking for another win tomorrow night. Pine Forests overall record is 5-5. Florida ranks our Softball team #129 in the state. In Florida 5A, they are ranked #25.

Isabel Rocha mentioned, “This season has been going well, you know we have had our difficulties like all teams do but we are ready to go far this year. It is a nice solid group; I love the girls and we merge well together on the field. My favorite thing about our team is our energy, we can be not having our best game, but we will still have that energy in the dugout and on the field to keep us in the game and that is neat.”

The Dolphin’s rivals, the Navarre Raiders, beat them previously in the season 6-0 at home. The two teams will meet again on April 26th at Navarre.

“The most important thing I have learned about playing with gulf breeze is that everyone has a big part in the game. My favorite part of the team is being able to cheer each other on even when someone is having a difficult day outside of the field,” said Erika Earl.
