Saying Goodbye
February 11, 2022
As we move forward into the new year, the world has already lost two notable stars.
On Dec 31, 2021, actress Betty White died after suffering a stroke at the age of 99.
“Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever,” said Jeff Witjas, White’s agent and friend.
A nationwide movie event was held on January 17th, to celebrate what would have been White’s 100th birthday.
The film, shown at 900 theaters nationwide, followed White’s day-to-day life, highlighting her work and fervent advocacy for animals.
The tribute includes highlights of White’s Television career, which spanned more than 80 years.
Several celebrities including Tina Fey, Lin Manuel Miranda, Ryan Reynolds and Robert Redford featured to talk about the veteran star and her work.
White won five Primetime Emmys and one competitive Daytime Emmy — as well as a lifetime achievement Daytime Emmy in 2015 and a Los Angeles regional Emmy in 1952 — in a television career that spanned seven decades and that the 2014 edition of “Guinness World Records” certified as the longest ever for a female entertainer.
“I am the luckiest old broad on two feet,” White told CNN in 2017. “I’m still able to get a job, at this age. I will go to my grave saying, ‘Can I come in and read for that tomorrow?’”
“I will miss her terribly,” said Witjas. “I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.”
Following Betty White’s death, actor and comedian Bob Saget died on Jan 9, 2022, at age 65.
“We are devastated to confirm that our beloved Bob passed away today,” said the Saget family in a statement.
Saget was found dead in a hotel room on Sunday at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes, according to a statement from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
At the time of his death, Saget was completing a tour that was set to take him to locations in New York, Canada and several other locations.
Saget, though known on stage as a comedian, rose to prominence with television audiences on family-friendly programming. He starred as Danny Tanner, the widowed father of three daughters, on ABC’s “Full House.”
“I am broken. I am gutted,” John Stamos, Saget’s “Full House” co-star, wrote on Twitter. “I am in complete and utter shock. I will never ever have another friend like him. I love you so much Bobby.”
On Dec 31, 2021, Saget paid tribute to White — just days before his own death. “I don’t know what happens when we die, but if Betty says you get to be with the love of your life, then I happily defer to Betty on this,” said Saget.
