It’s that time of year when players begin digging out their old jerseys and start getting ready for the 2024 girls’ lacrosse season. The Varsity roster for this year’s team is stacked with ten seniors, two of which will be going off to play collegiate level lacrosse. Hallie Cullipher will be playing at Lee university and Erin Kokora at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
The varsity team started off the season with a non-district scrimmage against Catholic losing 18-9, they also had their first official game of the season against Fort Walton winning 18-0. Junior Varsity kicked off the season strong winning against Pensacola High with a final score of 14-6. “This is a very senior group; we have ten seniors this year all of which are very experienced and have a lot of ability. They are very seasoned having played club and high school lacrosse.” Coach Mac expects a spectacular season this year “One main goal is to win districts, and to overall advance in the region” Coach stated that the girls were his favorite part of the team, “They are very hardworking, incredibly fun, and extraordinarily talented athletes.”
Coach Macs secret to coaching such an experienced team? “Be positive, support the girls, there is no need to yell at them, using constructive criticism is very effective.” When it comes to conflict amongst teammates Coach Mac gives this advice; “They are a very dynamic team; they have ups and downs and if a situation arises, they a very good about resolving it
amongst themselves and if they need me or coach Amanda to get involved, we do and that’s it.”
The team appears to be able to work together well, demonstrated by both teams winning. The girls played many games The girls’ lacrosse team has shown themselves as capable many times, even going to win districts last year. Seeing the strong start off the team has had this season I can only predict that this season will be just as good if not better than last.
