The Gulf Breeze Dolphins have started their season 2-3 after a 5-3 win against the Fort Walton Beach Vikings. The Dolphins are under a new coach as head coach Randall Fant steps up to fill the role.
Their first game of the season was against the South Walton Seahawks in South Walton. The game ended 3-4 in favor of the Seahawks after a walk-off run. D1 Southern Louisiana commit Jacob Thorn pitched five innings and recorded nine strikeouts through 75 pitches. Junior Tommy Regan hit one for two in the game.
In the second game of the season, the Dolphins faced the Fort Walton Beach Vikings. This game ended in a 5-3 Dolphin win. The Dolphins scored three runs in the first inning, followed by two one run innings in the second and fifth. Battle Alberson pitched five innings and recorded six strikeouts. Maddox Prindle came in to start the sixth inning, throwing no hits and recording a strikeout. Junior Josh Peterson had one hit in his lone plate appearance. Senior Bryson Rouillier hit a double.
In their third game, the Dolphins played against rivals Navarre Raiders. The game ended 0-1 in favor of the Raiders after the Raiders scored in the first inning and the Dolphins were unable to respond. Junior Ky Cook was the lone pitcher, recording six strikeouts and only allowing one hit throughout the game. Tommy Regan and Gavin Quenneville recorded the Dolphins only hits of the game. Bryson Rouillier leads the team with seven stolen bases.
For their third game, the Dolphins traveled to Choctawhatchee to take on the Choctawhatchee Indians. The game ended 8-14 in favor of the Indians. Junior Jake Hooten went 2 for three at the plate while also reeling in a double and stole three bases. Hooten also pitched for two innings and recorded three strikeouts. Josh Peterson hit .500 and stole a base. Jake Hooten currently leads the team in batting average, hitting .462
The Dolphins then traveled to Niceville to face off against the Niceville Eagles. The Dolphins annihilated the Eagled 14-0. Jacob Thorn threw a shutout, only allowing two hits throughout six innings, also throwing twelve strikeouts. Gavin Quenneville hit the only triple of the Dolphins season so far, also scoring three runs. Jake Hooten hit perfectly in this game, going 1.00 at the plate.
